Gateshead interchange- nexus

I spent one morning and one afternoon in early January inviting people to participate in a “discussion” about what we really mean when we say ‘i’m fine’. Lots of people asked ‘why?’ I was standing there and the answer is that I was curious to find out more about how we, as a community, talk to each other about the hard things, the good things or just the every day things. I was struck by the range of responses, from those who didn’t notice it at all to those who were curious but hesitant to take part. Some people wrote something down with support, some shared some intimate stories about hardships and successes. Themes emerged about the judgements we make about what people expect us to say when we’re asked “how are you?” and our reasons for not sharing.
